Submitted for your participation: a convivial late summer / early autumn weekend of relaxation, recreation, and celebration on a small farm in a rural orchard valley in the shadow of Mt. Hood, just an hour from Portland, Oregon.

Things to do

Hood River Saturday Market is Saturday 9am-1pm.

There are many splendid hikes in the area:

• Hood River Mountain is an easy 5-mile ridge hike with a view of the valley.
• Wahclella Falls is a family-friendly 2-mile hike to a waterfall. For a more serious Gorge hike, try the 4-mile Eagle Creek to Punchbowl Falls trail. Or, if you're short on time but still want to see some impressive falls, Multnomah Falls is right off the road.
• Finally, the many hikes of Mt. Hood are reachable in under an hour's drive.

Agriculture:

• Tour the Hood River Fruit Loop and pick apples and pears at Kiyokawa Family Orchards or Draper Girls' Country Farm.
• Taste wine in the Columbia Gorge AVA at Aniche, Cerulean, Cor Cellars, Domaine Pouillon, Marchesi, Memaloose, Phelps Creek, or Syncline.
• Taste beer at Double Mountain, Pfriem, Logsdon.

Food and drink:

• In addition to being one of our favorite breweries, Double Mountain has terrific pizza, as does Solstice Wood Fire Cafe.
• Gorge in the Gorge is a great resource for other restaurants, coffee shops, and bars in the area.

Bonneville Dam has a visitor center with an underwater fish ladder window.
